Giblin, Timberlake & Jasey Bill to Expand NJ BEST Scholarship Program Now Law

Certain college students will be eligible to receive a one-time scholarship of no less than $500 under the New Jersey Better Educational Savings Trust (NJ BEST) program during any semester of their enrollment under enrollment under legislation (A-895/S-806) that was signed into law Monday.
Previously, students could only apply for the scholarship during their first semester.
Assembly Democrat sponsors Thomas Giblin (D-Essex, Passaic), Britnee Timberlake (D-Essex, Passaic) and Mila Jasey (D-Essex, Morris) released the following joint statement:

“As the cost of college continues to rise, we must take every opportunity to ease the burden on our students and families. Last year, 48 applicants to the NJ BEST program were denied because they did not apply during the first semester of school. It’s not fair for some students to miss out on this scholarship simply because they did not apply within a short window of time. In some cases, a student’s financial situation may change over time, and they could benefit more from a scholarship later in their schooling. This change is long overdue.”
