Gordon, Eustace, Wagner to Announce Food Drive to Help Families in Need, As Summer Months Spell Hunger for Many New Jerseyans

Food Donations Can Be Dropped Off At Legislators’ District Offices or Local Food Pantries

(Bergen) – Senator Bob Gordon, Assemblyman Tim Eustace and Assemblywoman Connie Wagner are asking area residents to help individuals and families in need of food through the summer months by donating items that will be supplied to local food pantries and provided to residents in the community.

“Summer is often the season we look forward to most. For some in our communities, however, the summer season is a difficult time,” said Senator Gordon (D-Fair Lawn). “While schools are out, many individuals and families who rely on school breakfast and lunch programs to provide nutritious meals for their children, struggle to find enough food for their families.”

To help alleviate the summer food shortage, the Legislators are working in partnership with local pantries to help stock their shelves. Donations are welcome at any time but particularly encouraged between Monday, August 12th and Friday, August 16th. Non-perishable items such as hearty canned soups and stews, as well as other high-protein foods like canned tuna, peanut butter and enriched cereals can be dropped off at Senator Gordon’s office located at 14-25 Plaza Road, Fair Lawn, NJ or at the joint office of Assemblyman Eustace and Assemblywoman Connie Wagner located at 201 Robin Road, Suite 330, Paramus, NJ. The offices are open from Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm.

“Food banks experience a severe drop in donations at the same time they see an increased demand for their services. Families who typically donate are on vacation and many organizations cease their food drive programs during the summer months,” said Assemblyman Eustace (D-Maywood). “Unfortunately, hunger doesn’t take a holiday, and many of those who are most at risk of going hungry over the summer are children.”

Many municipalities across the 38th district also have convenient food drop off locations. For a list of drop off locations in your immediate area, please call or email Senator Gordon’s district office at (201) 703-9779 or SenGordon@njleg.org. Assemblyman Eustace and Assemblywoman Wagner’s office can also be contacted for information at (201) 576-9119 or at AsmEustace@njleg.org or AswWagner@njleg.org.

“As you’re sorting and packing for vacation, please take the opportunity to set aside non-perishable foods to donate today,” added Assemblywoman Wagner (D-Paramus). “Together, we can make a great stride in the fight against hunger.”
