GREENSTEIN: CHRISTIE TAX HIKES WILL FORCE SENIOR CITIZENS TO FLEE N.J.

Assemblywoman Linda Greenstein (D-Middlesex/Mercer) released the following statement Monday on the Republican budget that cuts property tax relief for senior citizens:

“Senior citizens who are about to lose $1,295 in property tax relief certainly won’t care what these increases are called, but there’s no denying they’re about to pay significantly more under Gov. Christie’s budget. That’s tragic and cruel. Besides the loss of their property tax rebates, senior citizens enrolled in the Senior Freeze program also will not receive any increased relief commensurate with their property tax increases. And this is with enrollment in this valuable program cut off by the governor. During his budget address, Gov. Christie said, ‘If you tax them, they will leave.’ He may have meant the wealthy, but under this Republican budget, it will be senior citizens who will be fleeing our state.”
