Greenwald: Only People Waiting on the Couch for Government Handouts Under Christie are NJ Millionaires

Today Assembly Majority Leader Louis Greenwald (D-Camden/Burlington) released the following statement in response to a news story in which Governor Christie expressed fears that America is turning into a “paternalistic entitlement society” where people are “sitting on a couch waiting for their next government check”:

“Governor Christie’s comments are insulting and demeaning to thousands of middle-class and working families struggling to get by every day, despite property taxes that have risen 20 percent during his administration. Under the Governor’s policies, the people truly sitting on the couch waiting for government handouts in New Jersey are 16,000 millionaires waiting for more and bigger tax breaks for the wealthy.

“It’s fitting that he made these remarks at a conference hosted by former President George W. Bush. After all–they both stood for massive tax breaks to millionaires and billionaires. And with Governor Christie’s budget address all but declaring ‘Mission Accomplished’ on property taxes and job creation in New Jersey, perhaps they can find matching flight suits for another aircraft carrier photo op.”
