Greenwald: “Our funding formula is not what has failed the children of New Jersey, it’s our Governor”

Assembly Majority Leader Louis Greenwald (D-Camden/Burlington) released the following statement Tuesday in response to Gov. Christie’s proposed school funding plan:

“The governor’s proposal puts politics before our children’s education, denying our children their right to an education and their chance to succeed. This ‘fairness formula’ is unconstitutional and puts our students at a disadvantage.

“Our current school funding formula that I crafted is the only formula that has been upheld by the state Supreme Court, but if we continue to underfund the formula we may never see the return on investment.

“New Jersey boasts the best schools in the nation. We have a statewide graduation rate of 90 percent. These are the results of a formula that has been underfunded since 2010. Our formula is not what has failed the children of New Jersey; it’s our governor who refuses to fund their education.”
