Greenwald Praises Gov. Murphy for Restoring Funding for Women’s Health Care

(TRENTON) – Assembly Majority Leader Lou Greenwald (D-Camden/Burlington) on Wednesday issued the following statement praising Governor Murphy for signing a pair of Democratic bills that will restore healthcare funding for women and children in New Jersey:

“Families in New Jersey have waited eight long years for this.

“Thank you Gov. Murphy for delivering on this promise

“No one should be deprived of life-saving health services because they lack health care.

“For eight years, we tried to get this funding restored only to see it blocked each and every time by the former governor. We never let up because we understood that access to reproductive health care and family planning services was not only morally right, but fiscally smart. This will ensure that women and children, who lack health insurance or are underinsured, will have access to preventative care so they don’t end up in emergency rooms with more serious illnesses that end up costing taxpayers more in the long run.

“It is fitting that these measures have been signed into law at a time when more and more women are lending their voices and raising awareness about the perils that women continue to face in our society. Whether it’s defending access to reproductive health care, championing pay equity or ending workplace harassment, there are still many wrongs that need to be righted. We will continue to work to ensure that flawed policies are rectified, and decisions made help empower those who have been disenfranchised.”
