Greenwald: Rice Should Be Fired Immediately for "Reprehensible" Behavior

New Jersey Assembly Majority Leader Lou Greenwald (D-Camden/ Burlington) released the following statement Wednesday:

“Mr. Rice’s comments and conduct are absolutely reprehensible. They do not reflect the values and integrity of Rutgers University, and they are an embarrassment to the state of New Jersey. He should be dismissed immediately.

“As a father, a coach to my son’s teams, and a former basketball player, I’m personally outraged and disgusted by Mr. Rice’s behavior. None of my coaches ever conducted themselves in this manner. All of them were role models in their own right and inspired me individually in their own way. I have passed their lessons on to my kids and my players. That raises a key question–what kinds of lessons do Mr. Rice’s actions inspire?

“A coach should be a teacher, a motivator and a mentor to our student athletes–not a bully who hurls slurs and physical abuse at his players. Mr. Rice has no place at Rutgers.”
