Greenwald Statement on Gun Safety Bills

(TRENTON) – Assembly Majority Leader Louis D. Greenwald (D-Camden, Burlington) issued the following statement Thursday on the 6-part Assembly gun bill package advanced by the full Senate and now heading to the Governor’s office:
“New Jersey is one executive decision away from enacting the strongest gun laws in the nation.

“The journey to creating stronger gun laws that will keep our communities safe, unfortunately, has been a long, arduous one, yet I am proud to say we are close to the finish line.

“We’ve listened to public concerns, organizations and all other stakeholders to devise the right steps to take that would close loopholes and strengthen state law.

“These are bi-partisan supported, common sense bills that will aid us in putting an end to gun violence and helping New Jersey continue to be a safe place to live, work and, especially, grow up in.

“We’ve all read the stories and watched the news detailing the horrific gun violence tragedies occurring –just within the last few months– in Santa Fe and Parkland. With these measures, New Jersey takes a proactive stance against gun violence, which is right where we need to be in order to ensure greater protection of our communities.”
