Greenwald Statement on GWB Lane Closure Guilty Plea & Indictments

(TRENTON) -Assembly Majority Leader Lou Greenwald (D-Camden/Burlington) issued the following statement Friday:

“Today is a sad day for New Jersey.

“The decision to close the lanes was not only petty, reckless and dangerous but also represented an egregious abuse of power and a betrayal of the public trust. Today’s proceedings represent a starting point of accountability for who perpetrated these outrageous actions on the people of New Jersey.

“Like most residents in New Jersey, I hope these proceedings will ultimately reveal needed answers as to who knew what and when, and why high-level Christie administration employees thought nothing of inconveniencing thousands of commuters and endangering public safety–including, worst of all, our most innocent children on their first day of school.

“I trust the judicial process and have faith that those responsible will pay for their actions. The sooner we know what really led up to that chaotic September morning, the sooner we can refocus our energies on implementing needed reform at the Port Authority to ensure this kind of abuse of power never happens again.”
