Greenwald: Today Proves Equality Never Takes a Back Seat

(TRENTON) – New Jersey Assembly Majority Leader Lou Greenwald (D-Camden/Burlington) issued the following statement on Monday after the governor dropped his appeal against marriage equality:

“This is an extraordinary day for New Jersey

“After a long, tedious battle, civil rights finally triumphs.

“While he may disagree with how the decision was made, I’m glad the governor recognized that he was fighting a losing fight and withdrew his appeal against marriage equality in New Jersey.

“Government sponsored discrimination has no place in our society, even when sugarcoated.

“I commend all the couples, advocates and supporters who refused to give up the fight.

“Today, we made history.”
