Gusciora & Eustace Vow to Make Sure Equality Wins in New Jersey

Assemblymen Reed Gusciora and Tim Eustace, two of the Assembly’s leading advocates for marriage equality, promised to continue to lead the fight despite Gov. Christie’s insistence on taking the matter to the state Supreme Court.

“You would think that there was a government shut down in New Jersey when it comes to gay rights, given the Governor’s approach. Much like Republicans in Congress, the Governor has chosen to ignore the will of the people and take the counterproductive path at every turn on this issue.

“But I can assure you that equality will ultimately triumph and when the marriage equality bill does make its way back to the Assembly for an override vote, we stand ready to lead that fight,” said Gusciora (D-Mercer/Hunterdon).

“Despite the Governor’s initial veto and his determination to prolong this issue and waste taxpayer dollars in court, I have no doubt that we will eventually triumph on the right side of history.

“Public opinion, the will of the legislature, and the constitutional wisdom of the courts will ultimately trump one individual’s personal ideology. We are determined to see to it in the interest of true equality,” said Eustace (D-Bergen/Passaic).
