Assemblyman Reed Gusciora on Friday hailed the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in favor of marriage equality:
“This is an historic day for our nation. In ruling on the right side of history, the Supreme Court upheld the underlying principles of our democracy – that everyone is entitled to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
“For the countless couples across the nation who have been marginalized, discriminated against and dehumanized for far too long, this is an historic victory. No longer will they have to assume the role of second class citizen because of who they love.
“In citing the 14th amendment, the Supreme Court today made it clear that everyone in this country is entitled to equal protection under our constitution. Any suggestions otherwise are just ‘interpretive jiggery-pokery.'”
