Gusciora & Muoio: Christie’s Action on Transitional Aid a Barrier to Progress in Trenton

Gov’s Executive Order Freezes Half of Funding to Economically-Disadvantaged Municipalities

Assembly Democrats Reed Gusciora and Elizabeth Maher Muoio issued the following statement Tuesday regarding Gov. Chris Christie’s executive order blocking the distribution of millions of dollars intended to help municipalities in dire financial straits:

“Without transitional aid, residents of Trenton – many of whom already face financial difficulty – will be the ones to suffer,” said Gusciora (D-Mercer/Hunterdon). “The governor makes a point of talking about tax fairness in terms that are convenient for him, but what’s fair about threatening to raise taxes on hard-working families in Trenton?”

“Transitional aid can be the difference between overcoming budgetary challenges and cutting critically needed services,” said Muoio (D-Mercer/Hunterdon). “Unfortunately, this is just another in a long line of poor decisions by a governor who continues to ignore the challenges of our capital city.”
