Assemblyman Reed Gusciora (D-Mercer/Hunterdon) on Thursday applauded the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan for ruling in favor of marriage equality by declaring the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) unconstitutional.
“I am pleased that the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals recognizes that civil rights should apply to everyone. Once again, we have another high court stating that the heart of the Defense of Marriage Act is unconstitutional.
“It’s clear that the tide is turning, not just in a court of law, but in the court of public opinion where more and more polls show support for marriage equality, even amongst groups that had once traditionally opposed it.
“This latest ruling is another step in the right direction and I applaud the court’s decision” said Gusciora.
