Assemblyman Reed Gusciora (D-Mercer/Hunterdon) released the following statement Tuesday on the video depicting Mike Rice, the Rutgers University men’s basketball coach, abusing his players:
“Mike Rice’s conduct is indefensible. Such unacceptable actions and abusive language have no place in our society from anyone, let alone a high-profile representative of our state university put in position to oversee college students.
“Mr. Rice should have been dismissed when this tape came to light. And the decision not to fire him then deserves a full review.
“If the university does not act, I will seek to add a provision to the state budge defunding Mr. Rice’s salary. Taxpayers should not be paying for this behavior.”
