(TRENTON) – To recognize the vital role of the manufacturing industry in New Jersey’s economy, a measure (AJR-39) sponsored by Assembly Democrats Eric Houghtaling and Joann Downey (both D-Monmouth) to designate the first week of October each year as ‘Manufacturing Week’ was approved Monday by the Assembly Labor Committee.
Assemblyman Houghtaling and Assemblywoman Downey released the following statements:
Assemblyman Houghtaling: “With goods such as chemicals, machinery, electronic products, and food, the Garden State is home to 21 Fortune 500 companies and 13 of the top 20 biopharmaceutical companies in the world. These industries provide well-paying jobs to residents and contribute significantly to New Jersey’s economy. Through this legislation, we will recognize their value to our state as a whole.”
Assemblywoman Downey: “From our desirable location in the Northeast to our highly educated and skilled workforce, manufacturing businesses are attracted to New Jersey for many reasons. Our residents have benefited from businesses flocking to New Jersey, and businesses have enjoyed access to some of the most affluent consumers in the country. I look forward to paying tribute to the industry every October once this measure becomes law.”
