New Jersey residents still want to bet on sporting events while traveling; current law does not allow it. Assembly Democrats Eric Houghtaling and Valerie Vainieri Huttle have sponsored legislation that would permit residents to place wagers on horse races while physically present outside state borders.
Upon the bill (A-2355) unanimously passing the full Assembly Monday, 73-0-0, Assemblyman Houghtaling (D-Monmouth) and Assemblywoman Vainieri Huttle (D-Bergen) released the following joint statement:
“Allowing our residents to place their bets while traveling out of the state will help ensure New Jersey does not lose out on wagering revenue and that it will remain within our system. Just because our residents are taking a trip doesn’t mean they should have to miss out on the excitement of betting on their favorite sporting event. This bill would allow New Jerseyans to remain a part of the action even if they aren’t currently within our state borders.”
Republican Assemblyman Ronald Dancer also sponsors the legislation. The bill will now head to the Senate.
