Jasey Statement on 50th Anniversary of Educational Opportunity Fund

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Educational Opportunity Fund, a program which supports low-income college students, Assemblywoman Mila Jasey released the following statement:

“For the past fifty years, the Educational Opportunity Fund has given young people who come from disadvantaged backgrounds a chance to achieve their dream of attending college. These students are the first in their families to pursue higher education. A majority would not have been able to afford to go to college without the assistance of EOF, potentially putting their professional goals out of reach.

“The importance of higher education cannot be understated, particularly as a college degree becomes an all the more vital tool to build a successful career. EOF was created on the principle that all students should have access to quality education, regardless of their economic status. We carry that same principle today as we invest in EOF and help students continue their education, which in turn may lift them out of poverty.

“As chair of the Assembly Higher Education Committee, I look forward to seeing this program flourish for years to come.”
