Jimenez Applauds Mandated Closure of Keegan Landfill in Kearny

In response to a Hudson County judge ruling that the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority must permanently close the Keegan Landfill in Kearny, Assemblywoman Angelica Jimenez (D-Bergen, Hudson) released the following statement:

“I am pleased the court has ruled in favor of Kearny by mandating the closure of the Keegan landfill that has plagued town residents with harmful gas emissions for over a year. No one deserves to live in an area that not only smells terrible but can also sicken them with noxious fumes that cause nausea and dizziness.

“A landfill that repeatedly exceeds our state’s maximum allowed emission levels cannot be allowed to remain open, which is why its closure is a victory for both the environment and those living in the surrounding communities.”
