Assemblywoman Angelica M. Jimenez (D-Bergen, Hudson) issued the following statement in response to the Senate Democrats selecting Senator Teresa Ruiz to serve as the Senate Majority Leader in the 2022-2023 session:
“I am thrilled to congratulate State Senator Teresa Ruiz on making history as the first Latina Senate Majority Leader in New Jersey history. I am confident that Senator Ruiz will do a tremendous job in the position, and I know that with her leadership New Jersey will prosper.
“One of New Jersey’s best qualities is its diversity, and it is critically important that diversity is represented in our leadership positions. Latinos are underrepresented in leadership positions across the country. This should not be the case, especially when everyone stands to benefit from the different perspectives and life experiences Latinos bring to the table. It is my hope that Senator Ruiz’s historic appointment inspires our community to pursue inclusion and diversity in leadership positions.”
