Johnson Statement on Legislative Democrats’ FY2020 State Budget Proposal

(TRENTON) – In response to the Assembly Budget Committee’s approval of the Democratic Legislature’s Fiscal Year 2020 State Budget plan, Assembly Speaker Pro Temp Gordon Johnson (D-Bergen) released the following statement:

“New Jersey has long struggled with the highest-in-the-nation property taxes on average. The budget we are advancing includes almost $175 million in property tax relief.

“Our plan fully funds the Senior Freeze program for the first time in a decade and doubles the veterans’ income tax deduction which will provide an additional $23 million in tax relief to positively impact an estimated 387,000 veterans in New Jersey.

“I am proud of the efforts put into crafting this budget which does not include a millionaire’s tax and is not dependent on one-shot gimmicks or diversions. I hope the Governor gives our plan the serious consideration it deserves.”
