Lagana Statement on Horizon

(Trenton) – Assemblyman Joseph Lagana (D- Bergen, Passaic) released the following statement on the Governor’s proposed Horizon legislation:

“Middle class New Jerseyans have long suffered under Governor Christie’s failed economic agenda. So I am skeptical of his latest call for Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey to forfeit their reserves to the State.

“New Jersey has suffered numerous credit downgrades under this administration and Standard & Poor’s suggests the same could happen to Horizon should this proposal take effect.

“I look forward to the opportunity to review the draft legislation which the Governor has touted, but is yet to release, as efforts to increase transparency in the insurance industry and expanding access to drug treatment and prevention are critical.

“However any plan that creates a bureaucratic slush fund or causes health care costs to skyrocket for hard working taxpayers is not acceptable.”
