Reacting to the announcement that the Administration is releasing the remaining $121 million in funds that had previously been frozen in the state budget, Senator Joseph Lagana, Assemblywoman Lisa Swain and Assemblyman Chris Tully (all D-Bergen/Passaic) released the following joint statement regarding its impact on public safety in the 38th Legislative District:
“We are extremely pleased that the critical funds we advocated for, and the Legislature allocated in the State Budget, to implement vital pedestrian safety improvements in Bergenfield and Fair Lawn are now unfrozen.
“As the representatives of the 38th Legislative District, we knew action was needed to address accidents injuring residents in both Bergenfield and Fair Lawn. To achieve that goal, we fought for State funding to be dedicated to the improvement of pedestrian safety in both towns.
“We are proud to announce that both Bergenfield and Fair Lawn will have access to $50,000 each to make necessary changes that will help prevent citizens from fearing for their safety as they attempt to cross the street and utilize their downtown areas.
“It is a top priority to us to keep our residents safe, and these funds will do just that.”
