Land Appointed to Serve on Three Assembly Committees as Legislature Begins New Session

Newly sworn-in Assemblyman Bruce Land has been appointed by Speaker Vincent Prieto to serve on three vital Assembly committees as he begins his first term representing the first legislative district for the 217th legislative session.

Land will be serving on the Assembly Homeland Security and State Preparedness; Military and Veterans’ Affairs; and Tourism, Gaming and the Arts committees, all of which compliment his experience and background as an Army veteran and a representative of a major tourism district.

“I’m thankful for the faith the Speaker has placed in me to serve on these important committees and I look forward to tackling the work at hand,” said Land (D-Cape May/Atlantic/Cumberland). “I understand, firsthand, the challenges that our veterans face when returning from combat and I’m eager to roll up my sleeves and help find solutions to pressing issues such as PTSD, reintegration into civilian life and helping them find gainful employment at home.”

Land, a retired captain with the New Jersey Department of Corrections, is a Vietnam veteran who has played a leading role in his community of Vineland where he has lived with his wife Bonnie for decades. As a former U.S. Army Sergeant, he received two Bronze Stars and the Soldier’s Medal for his bravery after his platoon came under attack in Vietnam in 1971.

The Assembly Military and Veterans’ Affairs Committee is responsible for monitoring all segments of state military preparedness, the National Guard and issues that pertain to veterans and their service. Meanwhile, the Assembly Homeland Security and State Preparedness Committee is responsible for monitoring the protection of citizens of the State of New Jersey. The panel oversees issues affecting counter-terrorism, risk assessments, infrastructure protections, emergency communications, border security and cyber security.

Land will also serve on the Assembly Tourism, Gaming and the Arts Committee, which is responsible for overseeing legislation regarding state tourism, including cultural, historical, heritage, and agricultural places of interest, and state arts programs, which include museums and the performing arts.

“As a representative of Cape May, Atlantic, and Cumberland counties, I have a vested interest in making sure our tourism and agricultural industries thrive in New Jersey,” added Land. “I look forward to working with my constituents to make sure their voices and needs are heard on these issues.”

Land represents the 1st legislative district, which encompasses portions of Atlantic, Cape May and Cumberland counties, includes the towns of: Avalon, Cape May, Cape May Point, Commercial, Corbin City, Dennis, Downe, Estell Manor, Fairfield, Greenwich, Hopewell, Lawrence, Lower, Maurice River, Middle, Millville, North Wildwood, Ocean City, Sea Isle City, Shiloh, Stone Harbor, Stow Creek, Upper, Vineland, West Cape May, West Wildwood, Weymouth, Wildwood, Wildwood Crest and Woodbine.
