Lawmakers Call on JCP&L to Hold Town Hall to Discuss Stability of Energy System to Provide Service

Greenstein/DeAngelo/Benson Urge Utility to Hold Monroe Township-based Town Hall to Have ‘Open and Two-Way Conversation with Customers’

To provide a forum for a frank conversation between customers and their energy provider, the 14th Legislative District lawmakers today called upon Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP & L) to hold an open forum with central Jersey customers who have faced increasingly frequent extended power outages in recent years that have led to frustrations that the utility provider is not able to meet the needs of consumers.

In a letter sent to JCP&L President Donald M. Lynch, Senator Linda R. Greenstein (D-Plainsboro), Assemblyman Wayne DeAngelo and Assemblyman Dan Benson (both D-Hamilton) called for “a town hall with the central jersey residents to answer questions regarding the cause for increasing outages, power restoration, communication with customers as well as ways the company plans to address system shortfalls.”

“There needs to be a frank discussion regarding the reasonable expectations of customers as well as a true understanding of what steps their energy provider is taking to maintain a system capable of meeting these goals.” said the lawmakers in the letter.

The 14th District team called for the forum to be held in Monroe Township because of the large number of senior citizens customers that have difficulty traveling and urged JCP &L to make every effort to publicize the meeting to residents in surrounding towns serviced by the company.
