Lopez Appointed to Latino Voting and Elections Task Force

Assemblywoman Yvonne Lopez (D-Middlesex) has been selected by the National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators (NHCSL) to serve as vice-chair of the Latino Voting and Elections Task Force for the 2020-2021 term.

“I am thrilled to have been appointed to this Task Force,” said Lopez. “The Task Force’s work to ensure an accurate and complete 2020 Census as well as a fair elections produce benefits for not only the State of New Jersey but the nation as a whole. As the Latino vote continues to grow in strength and with the upcoming 2020 election, my role on this Task Force will be to ensure that the 32 million Latinos registered to vote feel empowered to speak up for their community’s at the polls.”

Lopez will work with Arizona State Senator Tony Navarrete, chair of the task force, to develop policy to support comprehensive Census efforts as well as contending with any attempts to disenfranchise or suppress voters and working to expand voting accessibility and resources.

“So many people believe their vote does not matter and this feeling of disconnection is harmful to our democracy, “said Lopez. “Our goal is to inform voters and energize them to become engaged in the political process and to cast their ballot with confidence.”
