Lopez on New Deadline to Complete 2020 Census

(TRENTON) – Assemblywoman Yvonne Lopez (D-Middlesex), a member of the New Jersey Complete Count Commission, released the following statement on U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross’s decision to end the 2020 Census on October 5th:

“Five additional days is certainly welcome news for our State and its complete count efforts. However, Secretary Ross’s decision falls short and directly interferes with a recent federal ruling to change the U.S. Census deadline to October 31st. This decision is yet another example of the Trump Administration’s unprecedented attack on the Census and hard to count communities throughout our state. New Jersey must combat this assault by using the next five days to engage in a robust and comprehensive Complete Count strategy. We have too much at stake and we all have a role to play in urging all New Jerseyans to complete their 2020 Census form.”
