Assemblywoman Yvonne Lopez (D-Middlesex) issued the following statement after Monday’s joint Assembly Transportation and Science, Innovation & Technology Committee’s discussion on autonomous vehicle technology:
“Today, we have taken the initial steps into exploring the use of autonomous vehicle technology in New Jersey. This technology has the ability to enhance safety and improve our environment.
“Autonomous vehicles have the potential to improve air quality by improving traffic congestion and reducing noxious emissions.
“As New Jersey’s air quality continues to be among the most polluted in the nation, due in part to vehicle emissions, it is incumbent upon us to explore any new technology that can offer better health outcomes and improved quality of life for residents throughout our state.
“I am glad that we are exploring this technology in the legislature and I look forward to continued progress on this front.”
