Mazzeo: Christie Vetoes Targeting Egg Harbor Township & Egg Harbor City Schools Will Hurt Taxpayers

Governor Axes Budget Language that would have Exempted EHT from Unwarranted Fees & Provided Increased State Aid to EHC

(2nd LEGISLATIVE DISTRICT) – Assemblyman Vince Mazzeo released the following statement Friday after Gov. Christie vetoed budget language that would have relieved the Egg Harbor Township School District from an unfair school construction assessment and provided more state aid to the Egg Harbor City School District to help handle sharp enrollment increases:

“Gov. Christie and the Republicans in Trenton are clearly not looking out for Atlantic County taxpayers. I couldn’t be more disappointed. These provisions were reasonable, affordable, fair and fiscally responsible. I see no reason why they should have been vetoed.
“Gov. Christie and his Republican colleagues in the Legislature have hurt the taxpayers of Atlantic County.
“The budget language would have provided much-needed property tax relief and improved the education of our children. That’s something everyone should have supported, but as we saw, Republicans are more than willing to turn their backs on Atlantic County.
“Atlantic County taxpayers should be celebrating today, but instead they’re left to wonder why their governor doesn’t have their backs. They can at least know this – I will always keep fighting for Atlantic County tax relief.”
