Mazzeo Statement on Atlantic City Reform Efforts

(2nd LEGISLATIVE DISTRICT) – Assemblyman Vince Mazzeo (D-Atlantic) released the following statement on Wednesday on efforts to bring property tax relief and economic stability to Atlantic City and its surrounding region:

“We are working diligently to change Atlantic City into a more family friendly resort location, but as I’ve said before we need to stop the immediate bleeding in Atlantic City that is adversely impacting the entire county. Reducing the property tax burden on families and businesses is and always will be my top priority. I will not waver in that commitment.
“Atlantic City’s new status as an Economic Growth Zone under the law I helped sponsor will be the catalyst that delivers new investment and jobs to the city, but new jobs won’t come without real change. The status quo – or criticizing ideas without offering realistic alternatives – is quite simply unacceptable.
“We must provide certainty to Atlantic City about the financial obligation of the casinos to Atlantic City and Atlantic County. This will, in the end, make Atlantic County a more affordable place to live and work. Doing nothing and allowing the casinos to endlessly appeal property assessments means more pain for taxpayers across Atlantic County. I will not let that happen.”
