McKeon and Jasey Applaud Superior Court Decision on Marriage Equality

(TRENTON) – Assembly Democrats John F. McKeon and Mila M. Jasey released the following statement in regards to the New Jersey Superior Court ruling on Friday that would make New Jersey the 14th state to allow same-sex marriage in the country:

Assemblyman John F. McKeon (D- Essex, Morris): “We understood the DOMA ruling would open doors for marriage equality in states determined to keep them closed. Today the people of New Jersey take a step forward in recognizing a changing society and providing for that change. It is time that we joined other states in taking a stand for marriage equality. This has been a long road and a tremendous fight for many in New Jersey. Today is a victory for all.”

Assemblywoman Mila M. Jasey (D- Essex, Morris): “The Superior Court judgment today is right on the mark by aligning us with federal law. The Governor has the right to appeal, but should not. Marriage equality is not about his or any one person’s personal preference. It is about doing what is right and fair and, as of June, it is about following the law.”
