McKEON: CHRISTIE ENERGY PLAN REQUIRES HARD LOOK AT THE DETAILS

(TRENTON) – Assemblyman Environment Chairman John McKeon (D-Essex) released the following statement Tuesday on Gov. Chris Christie releasing his energy master plan:

“Any plan that relies on alternative energy such as wind and solar is a good thing, but like most things with this governor the devil is going to be in the details.
“We’re going to take a close look at this plan to make sure it adheres to New Jersey’s shared value of strong environmental protection and shared goal of building a strong economy around the job creation and investment that come with clean energy.
“The governor may talk a lot about his commitment to such goals, but his decision to remove New Jersey from the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative shows his actions don’t match his words. That’s why a close analysis of this energy master plan is going to be required.
“Any aspect that opens the door to expanded nuclear power in New Jersey will especially require substantial review.
“I expect my committee to hold hearings on this plan into the summer and look forward to bipartisan cooperation as we work together to ensure it matches New Jersey’s goals.”
