(TRENTON) – Assemblyman John McKeon (D-Essex/Morris) released the following statement Thursday on Gov. Murphy’s plan to bring immediate relief to NJ Transit riders:
“I applaud Governor Murphy’s announcement, which will provide immediate relief for all NJ Transit commuters who suffer far too often from delays, rail car shortages and overcrowded conditions.
“Today’s directive will begin to address many issues that have plagued NJ Transit over the past eight years of neglect and mismanagement. It will accelerate new hires, increase availability of replacement parts and address the shortage of rail cars.
“This is another great step by the new governor to restore NJ Transit to its former prestige. Governor Christie and the previous NJ Transit leadership pillaged the agency, which was formally referred to as a jewel of public transportation systems. It’s dedicated transit employees and nearly 165,000 daily rail customers were made to suffer and face unconscionable daily frustrations.
“I am committed to working with the governor and the next executive director, Kevin Corbett, to rebuild NJ Transit. It is imperative we make this system work again for all New Jerseyans.”
