McKeon on 2020 Affordable Care Act Open Enrollment

Open enrollment for 2020 health coverage under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) will begin on Friday November 1, 2019 and end on Sunday December 15, 2019. During this period, New Jersey residents will have the opportunity to apply for coverage or renew current coverage.

“I highly encourage everyone in need of health insurance to consult available resources in preparation for the fast-approaching open enrollment period,” said Assembly Financial Institutions and Insurance Committee Chair John McKeon (D-Essex, Morris). “Over 800,000 people in New Jersey depend on provisions of the ACA for health coverage.

“Taking measures to preserve core benefits of the program and protect against unpredictable changes at the federal level, New Jersey has acted to make certain access and affordability of healthcare exists for those who need it. So, while we work to implement our state-based health exchange, I am proud to say health care will remain a right for everyone in the Garden State.”

As the deadline approaches, individuals and families without coverage should be mindful that New Jersey’s individual mandate requires all residents to obtain minimum essential health coverage. Young adults, however, are still eligible to remain on the parents’ insurance plan up until the age of 26.
