McKeon Statement on Gov. Christie’s Comments about Olympics

(TRENTON) – Assemblyman John McKeon (D-Essex/Morris) today issued the following statement in response to comments made by Gov. Christie about the Olympics during a sport radio show appearance last week.

“Governor Christie was quoted over weekend saying he had no interest in the Olympics. Maybe not everyone enjoys watching the Olympics but we all are for rooting on our dedicated athletes representing Team USA. At an event that is supposed to bring the world together, let’s show a little support for the unity it represents. In particular, I hope the Governor will join us in showing some love for the 35 Olympians from New Jersey, including our two local stars participating, Kyrie Irving (West Orange) and Ibtihaj Muhammad (Maplewood). These young men and women have spent their entire lives dedicated to reaching this moment. For that reason alone let’s wish them luck as they representation of our state and nation in front of the whole world.”
