(TRENTON) – Assemblyman John F. McKeon (D-Essex/Morris) today released the following statement in response to the Supreme Court’s ruling in Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission.
“Permitting exemptions to our civil rights is a step backwards for our country.
“Yesterday’s Supreme Court decision sends the wrong signal to those who may wish to use religious beliefs as a pretext for discrimination.
“Most importantly, the decision highlights the pressing need for nationwide non-discrimination protections to guarantee that nobody in America is deprived of their basic human dignity solely because of who they are and who they love.”
