McKeon Statement on Pruitt Resignation

(TRENTON) – Assemblyman John F. McKeon (D-Essex/Morris) released the following statement regarding Scott Pruitt’s recent resignation as the head of the Environmental Protection Agency:

“From the beginning, I opposed Scott Pruitt’s nomination as the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency. His anti-environmental record as the former Oklahoma Attorney General was a nonstarter.

“His tenure at the agency has been disastrous.

“He worked to the detriment of our environment and his actions were both disgraceful and unbecoming of a public official.

“His resignation is welcomed; however, it is long overdue.

“While President Trump’s interim pick to head the agency, U.S. EPA Acting Administrator Andrew Wheeler, may come with less baggage as his predecessor, his background is just as alarming. He’s dedicated his career to weakening environmental regulations. He started as an adviser to Senator Inhofe, a prominent climate science skeptic, and has made millions of dollars lobbying on behalf of the fossil fuel energy industry.

“Our country demands better!”
