Assemblyman John F. McKeon (D-Essex, Morris) today gave strong support for Governor Murphy’s decision to transition students away from the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) testing and toward a more accurate learning assessment system.
The transition’s initial proposal includes reducing the number of necessary tests to graduate high school from six to two; providing educators and parents with timely test data; and easing requirements for first-year English learners on the English language proficiency test.
“Governor Murphy delivered on a key campaign promise with these changes, and they are a win for parents, teachers and most importantly, students. By transitioning away from this problematic standardized test, which has been flawed from its inception, it will allow for increased instructional time and provide educators with the flexibility needed to prepare our children for their future.
“Assemblywoman Jasey and I have been at the forefront of finding ways to more effectively assess students’ learning and preparedness. I will continue our efforts to reduce the overuse of hi-stakes standardized testing.”
