McKeon to Chair Assembly Financial Institutions and Insurance Committee

(TRENTON) – Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin has appointed seasoned legislator Assemblyman John McKeon as the new chair of the Assembly Financial Institutions and Insurance Committee.

“John has over a decade of admirable experience in the legislature and several years’ experience serving on the Assembly Financial Institutions and Insurance Committee,” said Coughlin (D-Middlesex). “His breadth of knowledge and professional acumen are only two of his many personal attributes that led me to appoint him as chair. I am confident he will bring strong leadership to the committee and will always make the concerns of the people of New Jersey a priority.”

McKeon was elected to office in 2002. He has previously served as chair of the Assembly Judiciary Committee, chair and vice-chair of the Environment and Solid Waste Committee and Co-Chair of the Joint Legislative Task force on drinking Water Infrastructure.

The Assembly Financial Institutions and Insurance Committee is responsible for issues such as banking, finance, trusts and estates, auto insurance, liability insurance, life insurance, product liability, property insurance, and tort reform.

“With a new national tax plan to take effect and adjustments to our nation’s current healthcare system, we’ll be interested to see how these changes effect residents, financial institutions and insurance companies moving forward,” said McKeon (D- Essex, Morris). “Another priority matter will be to thoroughly consider the idea of an independent public bank, which could provide new avenues of investment for New Jersey. I am looking forward serving as chair of the Assembly Financial Institutions and Insurance Committee this session.”

McKeon will also serve on both the Assembly Environment and Solid Waste Committee and the Assembly Appropriations Committee.
