McKEON WELCOMES CHRISTIE SUPPORT FOR EFFORTS TO CLEAN & RESTORE BARNEGAT BAY

(TRENTON) — Assembly Environment and Solid Waste Committee Chairman John F. McKeon (D-Essex) released the following statement on Thursday welcoming Gov. Christie’s support for his plans to clean and restore Barnegat Bay.

McKeon has sponsored several bills currently advancing through the Legislature to protect the bay:

“Barnegat Bay is one of New Jersey’s great treasures, which is why I’m glad Gov. Christie has joined our efforts to clean and restore it. Hopefully we can now move forward in a bipartisan way to get the job done and ensure the bay is a jewel for generations to come.

“Along with Sen. Smith and his colleagues, we’ve been working for more than a year to author and advance legislation that would protect the bay by cutting fertilizer and storm water pollution, combating erosion, protecting the watershed and engaging the public.

“I’m pleased to see the governor agree with these efforts. I hope this translates into a cooperative effort moving forward.

“After all, only by working together can we stop the degradation of an ecological treasure that is an important economic driver for our state.”
