McKnight Named Chair of Homeland Security and State Preparedness

Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin has selected Assemblywoman Angela McKnight (D-Hudson) to lead the Assembly Homeland Security and State Preparedness Committee.

“I thank Speaker Coughlin for instilling his faith and trust in me with this charge,” said McKnight. “Last month in my hometown of Jersey City, I saw what happens when terror strikes a community. I mourned with my neighbors. I worried about the future. It pains me to know that similar acts of hate-induced terror are on the rise in New Jersey and nationwide, claiming innocent lives and spreading fear. We cannot prevent every tragedy, but this committee strives to ensure our state is safe, secure, and prepared for emergencies.”

McKnight was first elected to represent the 31st legislative district in the Assembly in 2016. In addition to the Homeland Security committee, she serves on the Senior Services and Health committees.

Known as the “Carepreneur,” McKnight is the founder and CEO of AngelaCARES, Inc., in Jersey City. The nonprofit provides support and advocacy for senior citizens and mentors youth. She also owns Care About You, LLC, which offers consulting services for the elderly.

McKnight sits on the board of multiple organizations, including Jersey City Community Charter School, Alliance Community Health Care Inc. and United Way of Hudson County.

She was recently inducted into Hudson County Chamber’s 12th Class of Legends and received the Daryl Harrison Rand Award for her advocacy in Hudson County.
