** MEDIA ADVISORY ** ASSEMBLY PANEL TO EXAMINE USE OF STATE POLICE HELICOPTERS

The Assembly Homeland Security and State Preparedness Committee will meet tomorrow to study the protocols and procedures currently governing the use of State Police helicopters.

The hearing will take place on Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at 1 p.m. in committee room 12 on the fourth floor of the Statehouse Annex in Trenton.

Assemblywoman Annette Quijano, Chair of the Committee, called the hearing after it was revealed that Governor Christie used a State Police helicopter to travel to and from personal and political events, raising concerns over whether this use impacts the state’s homeland security and emergency medical operations, which the helicopters are ultimately designed for.

The panel will hear testimony from Colonel Joseph R. Fuentes, Superintendent of the New Jersey State Police.
