Greenstein/DeAngelo/Benson Continue Push for Cell Phone Donations for Domestic Violence Victims During Sexual Assault Awareness Month

(HAMILTON TWP.) — Senator Linda R. Greenstein (D-Plainsboro) and Assemblymen Wayne P. DeAngelo and Daniel R. Benson (both D-Hamilton) will team with local domestic violence advocates and Verizon Wireless at a Thursday afternoon press conference to promote a cell phone donation program underscoring the importance of protecting victims during sexual assault awareness month.

The Central Jersey lawmakers are working with the Verizon Wireless HopeLine Program that refurbishes donated cell phones and loads them with 3,000 pre-paid minutes to give to victims of domestic violence transitioning out of dangerous relationships with the help of local agencies such as Womanspace. The lawmakers have collected almost 100 phones during the first six weeks of the phone collection drive. The 14th District community outreach program is slated to continue until May 31, 2011.
