Seth Frotman, former student loan ombudsman at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and executive director of the nonprofit Student Borrower Protection Center, will testify before the Assembly Higher Education Committee on Thursday on behalf of a bill (A-455) to create an Office of Student Loan Ombudsman in New Jersey.
Under the bill, the office would be established to manage loan complaints and help student borrowers understand their rights and responsibilities, as well as create additional regulations for student loan servicers.
Frotman’s work at the Student Borrower Protection center focuses on working with state and local lawmakers on student borrower protection policy. He is scheduled to testify on the bill first.
The committee will meet at 10 a.m. in Committee Room 15, 4th Floor, State House Annex, Trenton, NJ. The meeting will be live steamed at https://www.njleg.state.nj.us/Default.asp.
