***MEDIA ADVISORY – TODAY*** STENDER TO ATTEND LEAGUE OF MUNICIPALITIES LAUNCH OF ‘GET OUT THE COUNT’ EFFORT

Assembly State Government Chair, League Members, Census Officials Continue to Stress Need to Submit Census Information

(TRENTON) — Assembly State Government Committee Chairwoman Linda Stender will attend a 2010 Census awareness news conference this morning, hosted by the League of Municipalities.

The news conference is scheduled for 11 a.m., TODAY, Wednesday, March 31, Room 109, First Floor, State House, Trenton.

During the news conference, the League plans to announce the launch of their federal, state and local “Get Out the Count” effort, a program aimed at encouraging residents to complete their census forms in a timely manner.

“In 2008 over $20 billion was allocated to metropolitan areas for housing assistance,” said Stender (D-Union). “With roughly $400 billion in annual federal distributions for programs in the areas of housing, education, transportation, and health and human services the importance of increased participation in this census cannot be overstated.”
