Will Demonstrate Speed at Which Candles, Lights, Christmas Trees Can Cause Devastating Fires through Live Demonstration

(SAYREVILLE) — Assemblyman John S. Wisniewski (D-Middlesex), chairman of the New Jersey Fire Safety Commission, will host a fire safety demonstration Wednesday, December 8 to emphasize the need for New Jerseyans to be cautious when decorating their homes for the holidays.

The live fire demonstration, held in conjunction with Middlesex County Freeholder Mildred Scott, Middlesex County Fire Marshal Michael Gallagher and other county and local officials, will show just how quickly a natural Christmas tree can catch fire and become engulfed in flames when either placed too close to candles or other sources of heat or when allowed to dry out due to neglect. The demonstration also will illustrate the dangers of improperly using electric holiday lights indoors and outdoors.

The fire safety demonstration will be held 10a.m., Wednesday, December 8th at the Middlesex County Fire Academy, 1001 Fire Academy Drive, Sayreville.
