(TRENTON) – Legislation to phase New Jersey’s minimum wage up to $15 per hour, help Atlantic City’s economic recovery, create a drinking water safety task force, bolster New Jersey’s military bases and prohibit smoking at public parks and beaches highlight Thursday’s Assembly voting session.
Assemblyman-select Robert Karabinchak (D-Middlesex) will also be sworn in as a member of the General Assembly, filling a vacancy in the 18th Legislative District.
Also on tap are bills to permit 17-year-olds to vote in primary election if they turn 18 before the next general election, automatically register or update voter registration as part of driver’s license application or renewal, prohibit automatic renewal of service contracts, ban retailers from storing consumer magnetic-stripe data, allow municipalities to issue liquor licenses for use in historic taverns, create a Blue Alert system to facilitate the apprehension of persons suspected of killing or seriously injuring law enforcement officers, encourage school districts to donate excess food and urge Comcast and YES to resolve their broadcast programming dispute.
