More than 150 People Signed up to Speak
(TRENTON) — The Assembly Budget Committee will host a public hearing Monday on Gov. Christie’s budget proposal, with more than 150 people signed up to speak.
Monday’s hearing was slated to begin at 1:30 p.m. in the State House Annex, but because of the overwhelming public interest the hearing will now begin at 9:30 a.m. to allow more time for people to speak.
“Never before have we had such an overwhelming response to a public hearing,” said Assembly Budget Chairman Lou Greenwald (D-Camden). “Gov. Christie’s budget plan clearly concerns New Jerseyans who know this budget will lead to skyrocketing property taxes and tuition, make it even more difficult for senior citizens to get health care, hurt public schools and discourage economic growth.”
The hearing previously scheduled for Monday at 9:30 a.m. with the Department of Law and Public Safety has been moved to Wednesday, April 21.
“Public hearings are among the most important sessions this committee holds each year, and now they’re even more important,” said Greenwald (D-Camden). “The state budget directly effects every New Jerseyan, and the input and ideas we receive from residents is vital. All their voices deserve to be heard and we’ll stay all night if we must to make sure that happens.”
Monday’s hearing will be held in Committee Room 11 in the State House Annex.
