*** MONDAY ADVISORY ***Assembly Education Committee Hosts Public Hearing to Discuss County Voc. School Districts; Best Practices to Promote Career Development Post Graduation

(TRENTON) – The Assembly Education Committee will meet Monday to hear testimony from invited guests about county vocational school districts, including the best practices employed by districts to encourage career development and to transition students to college and employment.

The hearing will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, October 22, 2012, in Committee Room 11, 4th Floor, State House Annex, Trenton, NJ. It will be streamed live at http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/

The committee will also consider the following bills:

  • Requires Commissioner of Education to change deadline for municipal review of defeated school budgets whenever he changes the annual school election date (A-248). Sponsored by Assemblyman Gary S. Schaer (D-Bergen/Passaic).
  • Permits a child who moves out of a school district due to a family crisis to remain enrolled in that district until the end of the school year (A-735). Sponsored by Assemblyman Tim Eustace (D-Bergen).
  • Requires school districts to allow charter school students, county vocational school students, and students receiving equivalent instruction elsewhere than at school to participate in interscholastic sports programs on resident district’s sports teams (A-3421). Sponsored by Assemblywoman Celeste M. Riley (D-Cumberland/Gloucester/Salem) and Assembly Education Chairman Patrick J. Diegnan, Jr. (D-Middlesex)
