*** MONDAY ADVISORY *** ASSEMBLY PANEL TO CONSIDER CHRISTIE PLANS TO END AT-HOME MENTAL HEALTH THERAPY FOR 3,000 NEW JERSEY CHILDREN

(TRENTON) – The Assembly Human Services Committee on Monday will take testimony on the Christie administration’s plan to end at-home behavioral health therapy for about 3,000 New Jersey children.
The decision was recently detailed in an article by The Star-Ledger.
“Finding ways to cut costs is always a good thing, but we also know that in-home therapy works and costs less than long-term residential care,” said Assemblywoman Valerie Vainieri Huttle (D-Bergen), the committee chairwoman. “But cost concerns aside, I also fear this decision will have lasting negative ramifications on children and families.”
The committee will also receive testimony from invited guests regarding the programs and services available to dually diagnosed children and their families.
The hearing is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. in Committee Room 16 of the State House Annex. It will be streamed live at http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/media/live_audio.asp.
